Is This A Life Worth Living?

As the adage goes, "cursed are those who are born during the age of transition." This Chinese proverbial plight applies more so in the case of the struggling millions in the over-crowded metropolitan cities, belonging to the poor countries. With due regard to our President's vision relating to provision of urban amenities in rural areas, it is debatable whether urban amenities are conspicuous by their absence or mismanagement thanks to the unenviable capacity of the city administration to do so.

No doubt the quality of life in terms of material welfare has been enhanced for the average middle-income group given the globalised scenario. Yet what is being denied raises the issue whether it is all really worth the trouble in terms of the compromises that are made.

What is at stake is the ecological sensitivity of citizens. As a citizen, one has the fundamental right to enjoy a pollution free environment and decongested urban spaces for healthy and prosperous living.

"Open spaces" allow the weary citizens to steam off after a day's slogging, especially in a tropical climate. In fact, the sanity of city life is being preserved only in the open spaces. If overcrowding and spurt in vehicular traffic eat into the "open spaces" available to the common man, it would hamper his emotional and psychological well-being and is nothing short of a violation of human rights.

The problems relating to negative externalities due to overcrowding of public spaces affect both the rich and the poor alike. Yoga, transcendental meditation, gym, and other outlets are the available stress relievers to the higher income groups for recharging themselves. The low-income groups, lacking both in awareness and affordability, naturally look upon the open space as lubricating mechanism for their deprivation in private spaces. They invariably emerge from polluted and overcrowded slums and it is not only ethical but also sensible not to deprive them of open spaces lest there should be more crime and violence.

Prevent Prevail and Peer Pressure!!!

WE HAVE heard it before, read it in the papers, our parents may have appealed to us, or our own weighing machines might have smiled at us disdainfully.

Yet, how often do we stop ourselves from picking up that cheesy slice of pizza, sipping that tingling cola, sinking into the sofa to watch the highly charged men in blue on the field, or venture out only to get that exhilarating puff?

How many of us know at least two others our own age who are overweight, who suffer from premature health problems, who enthusiastically await the weekend so they can drown themselves in a pitcher of beer and disappear behind the collective clouds of smoke generously produced in the name of "friendship," whose fingers are active on keyboard while the rest of their body switches off to slumber?

Some wonder at the prevalence of ill health habits despite the presence of awareness against them. A key issue that our present day youth need to address is prevention — of health problems and negative health behaviours, also called self-compromising health behaviours.

Prevention means taking measures to combat risk factors for illness before an illness ever has a chance to develop (Shelley Taylor).

There are always cures to help one recover from stress-induced headaches, from alcohol-related health problems, high blood pressure due to obesity. Why are there just as few measures to prevent these illnesses in the first place? The concept that we need not put our bodies through the trauma of pain and palliatives has not yet permeated our ways of thinking and behaving.

Our older generations might not have consciously emphasised preventive measures — perhaps they did not have to. Children back then, as your grandfather will fondly recollect, were fit and fine, enjoying outdoor activities and running about in glee; today's little ones have pot bellies and run about too, a little sluggishly.

A chief concern in the area of health psychology today is the prevention of ill health behaviours, such as smoking, alcoholism, over eating, etc., and their consequences.

Primary prevention involves instilling good health habits and changing poor ones. Several factors play a role here. Age for example explains how older adults are more health conscious than adolescents; value systems discriminate between families that emphasise good health behaviours such as exercise and diet and those that do not. Given how important peer relationships are to youngsters, we can use it to advantage by instilling these good habits among them.

Health habits are strongly influenced by early socialisation with parents; thus, it is essential that one's childhood is richly endowed with active lifestyles, correct sleeping habits and Popeye's herbivorous pursuits too!

Work (out) ing

Work (out) ing:
This one word can be interpreted in different ways.
1. Work
2. Workout
3. Working
4. Outing(S).
First let’s consider about work. Work is defined in two ways:
a. Activity directed toward making or doing something
b. A product produced or accomplished through the effort or activity or agency of a person or thing.
It is not a good work if you do your work without doing any workouts. Here WORKOUT refers to creation of planned sequence of activity which can help us to do our work effectively and efficiently. Same workout has to be considered in another way, without which the physical and mental stability of the person becomes a big question. The workouts in this case refers to the physical exercises which a person does and also mental exercise like yoga to keep himself fit both physically and mentally.

The third being WORKING, working always is absolutely not at all a wrong thing. Everything needs an order in which you have to work. It is not that you do your workouts regularly but it is even more important when and how systematic you do your work. Working out the Workout in the correct time is what is working. You have to analyses your work pattern and start working in the as you determined in your workout.

Outing: It is always important. Work, work and work can’t be your life. It is important to spend some time visiting places which you always wanted to visit. Spending some money, going out with friends, enjoying the evening in the sands of beach leaving behind the stress and strain of work. Enjoying the life with Mother Nature is OUTING.

Nothing - Is actually Interesting.

I was about to write a post which will be most interesting and that will be much of a useful information to my readers. So I was pressing hard on what to write and what topic to write a post. I was thinking and thinking to write something which shall entertain my readers. So I started to write this post, searched the net for some good topic unfortunately did not get anything good. So decided one topic to write upon on my own.

It was after this huge and extraordinary effort I typed a few lines of this post. My thoughts flow was stopped by few guys online trying to disturb my work but due to the noble reason of taking this good information to my readers I further continued to write. The more I stressed I could write only this crap. And the fact in this post is that by the time you realize that this post contains nothing informative it is too late for you to stop reading this. : P. I thought not to write anything but to write something which is actually nothing is better than not writing anything. My post of useful information ends here.

'Icon' making

Not all human beings are self-motivated. Those without self-motivation need external motivators to motivate them to excel in their field of activity. For such people, very often the external motivators are the men and women perceived as ‘icons’ by society.

These ‘icons’ normally reach their exalted status by virtue of their skills, dedication and sustained hard work in a particular area of activity. The huge public adulation that they command inspires lesser mortals to strive to emulate them.

To the extent that the ‘icons’ inspire people to excel in various socially desirable activities, they serve as catalysts for the progress of society. But, in the present age of television, ‘icon making’ has become almost an exclusive function of TV channels, which, of course, do this with their viewership rating and cash registers in mind.

A Serious Pandemic

Hatred Immunity Deficiency Syndrome (HIDS) is probably the most serious pandemic in our world today, potentially deadlier than even AIDS. The disease may be ‘active’ or in remission, but it is extremely difficult to cleanse oneself of this affliction completely. Once infected, all the immunity mechanisms built in the human mind over the years can be rendered useless. Learning, education, value system, etc., are all laid to waste by this malady. The ceaseless churning of the infected mind and the burning of the heart weakens the noble human spirit and demonises it. HIDS has claimed more lives than any other calamity known to man.

Though man has been battling with reasonable success all kinds of adversities including diseases and natural calamities, he has not even begun the battle with this deadliest of all afflictions, which can exterminate mankind, nay, all life on this planet. Hatred can spread very fast indeed. Thanks to modern communication systems, an incident miles away can provoke hatred reactions and genocide within hours, if not minutes at several other localities. And even after it subsides, it leaves behind so much hatred, bitterness and such terrible scarring.

It is imperative for the educated people from all faiths, regions and communities to wake up, or be prepared to face the catastrophe. Expansive thinking, unity of purpose, integrated and harmonious co-existence are to be propagated instead of divisive theories. The nobility of non-violence and the sacredness of mutual respect have to be drilled again into the vulnerable human minds.

Race For Space

A few ago, subcontinental pride found anachronistic expression in a series of tit-for-tat nuclear tests. The successful launching into space of a Chinese astronaut has presented us with yet another avenue for the misdirection of patriotic fervour and precious national resources. In addition, the Chinese have also announced their intention of putting their men on the Moon by 2010.

Forty years after Yuri Gagarin walked in space, a manned space flight has largely symbolic value. Yet it is a lamentable reflection on human nature that symbols are only too readily clutched at by countries whose stock in international affairs is lower than what bitter pride would have. Fears abound, therefore, of a "space-race" that promises to derail economic and human development in the region.

`Colonisation of space'

While the U.S. has not exactly been caught off-guard by this development, China's plans for the Moon have challenged its own illogical sense of proprietorship over that piece of rock. Even a superficial study of the history of the last few centuries should suffice to convince us that the "colonisation of space" is more than a metaphor — it represents the perfect logical extension of the Western ideology of possession or expropriation by money or might. Conjoined with the happy philosophy that all resources are fair game for exploitation, it explains the U.S. anxiety over the prospect of "ceding" territory to a rival enterprise, even if the resources of the territory in question have not till date been established to be useful (a lesson the Soviets learnt the hard way after selling Alaska for a song).

Actually, though, it has been suggested that the Moon represents a good source of Helium3, an isotope of helium, considered to be the ideal fuel for controlled nuclear fusion, which promises to be a "clean" energy source. While the idea of a space battle over mining rights on the Moon may seem far-fetched, it is only because space travel has not yet developed to the point of being affordable and reliable. However, it is worth remembering that scientific advance in this century has had a tendency to be exponential, with one small breakthrough opening the floodgates for an avalanche of discoveries. The surreal nightmare of an extraterrestrial war may be upon us sooner than we think.

The intensity with which the Chinese have been pursuing their space programme over the past few years also reflects their own perception of the strategic importance of outer space in the waging of terrestrial wars, an importance that has been repeatedly underlined by recent U.S. campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq, which relied heavily on satellite imaging. Already the battles of the future are being envisaged in defence establishments around the world, with talk of weapons to knock out satellites, and in turn, weapons to knock out those weapons, and so on, endlessly, in the dizzying calculations of military deterrence.

A space-race is inevitable, therefore, and it is equally inevitable that India will join in it, willy-nilly. A war without a battle lasts longer and costs more than a war with one, and we can be assured that by the time it ends (if it ever does), many millions will have sacrificed their lives to poverty for the sake of keeping the military machinery of their respective nations oiled and ready.

Obscenity In Adds

MODERN-DAY posters serve the purpose of not only advertising the film but also showing-off various masterly shot views of the heroine's exposed bust. The ad-makers exhibit a sense of competition in picturing the next-to-nude heroine against a fully clad hero, so as to lure the common man to the theatres. Be it is a box-office hit or flop, the quest in turning posters as feast of the eyes is rather wild.

Earlier, obscene pictures were a mark of `A' films (meant for above 18 years) but cinemas of the hour have started to inchoate. I believe that the impact of foreign film ads has led the desis too to follow suit. Posters are stuck at places like tea-stalls, snack outlets where people normally hang around. Electrifying posters will surely catch one's eye and he would definitely have an incessant desire to watch the film too, thus serving the purpose of why the ad was stuck in the first place.

Imagine the impact this could have on small kids who get to see these vulgar posters while on their way to school or shopping. Are we moulding the future citizens of India into a bunch of good-for-nothing sloths? Where do these kids get to do away with the doubts that arise in their minds? Won't they unknowingly be taking the wrong path? The ad-world is bothered with just the money that is minted out. This is a serious social issue wherein, in order to publicise films with practically no story-content, vulgarity is being used in an uncontrollable manner.

Why don't such films that sport an actress in skimpy clothes flirting around come in the `A' category, since when they are branded as `U' it is taken for granted that publicising any sort of obscenity is allowable?

India is a land that holds high the virtues of both sexes. Society looks up to a woman of substance and not to one that exposes all that has to be hidden. The real intention why God created man and woman per se will be lost if things proceed in this undesirable fashion.

India-Exploring It

It is impossible not to be astonished by India. Nowhere on earth does humanity present itself in such a dizzying, beliefs, creative burst of cultures and religions, races and tongues festivals, colours, spirit to fight, love and respect. India has a rich and unique cultural heritage, and has managed to preserve its established traditions throughout history whilst absorbing customs, traditions and ideas from both invaders and immigrants. Many cultural practices, languages, customs and monuments are examples of this co-mingling over centuries.

Perhaps the only thing more difficult than to be indifferent to India would be to describe or understand India completely.

India the biggest democracy in the world. On of the fastest developing nation. The nation which has the second highest man power. Biggest market for itself and all other countries. Unity among diversity.

India
1. The largest producer of milk and milk products, cashew nuts, coconuts, ginger, turmeric and black pepper.
2. Has the worlds largest cattle population.
3. Ranked first in the production of banana and sapota.
4. Film industry in India is the largest in the world in terms of ticket sales and in terms of number of films produced annually.
5. Second largest producer of wheat, rice, sugar, groundnut and inland fish
6. Second fastest emerging economy in the world.
7. Ranked second in terms of agricultural output.
8. Third largest producer of tobacco.
